The 1341st Worldwide Environmental Cleanup Campaign

WMSCOG cleanup at Freedom Island with Miss Earth Philippines Candidates

Miss Earth Philippines 2011 candidates joined about 700 members of the World Mission Society Church of God as they took part in the 1,341st Worldwide Environment Cleanup Campaign for the Passover, conducted at the Freedom Island in Las Piñas-Parañaque City last March 11, 2012.

3 straight hours, 100 sacks collected from the bay

Notwithstanding the scorching heat, Filipino and Korean members of the Church of God, and even the victors of Miss Earth Philippines 2011, filled innumerable sacks with all sorts of rubbish ranging from branches of trees swept into the bay, used diapers, plastics, styrofoams and other non-biodegradable trash, without a hint of tiredness nor complaint, for 3 straight hours. More than 100 sacks of waste materials and garbage were collected after the cleanup.

Various types of waste carried from Manila Bay had turned Freedom Bay into a huge garbage site. Formally known as Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA), the Freedom Bay or Freedom Island, used to be home to mangroves and birds, and was also a source of livelihood for the residents who used live off fishing, owing to its formerly rich biodiversity. Initially, the area seemed impossible to clean. Nevertheless, having one mind to restore the area to its former glory, the participants started and finished the activity with bright smiles on their faces. Everyone felt happy and accomplished, knowing that they contributed in making the world a better place.

This cleanup campaign was supported by the Paranaque City Hall officers and DENR NCR Director Rey Aguinaldo, who visited the cleanup site.

Cleanup for environmental campaign and sharing the love of Heavenly Mother

The World Mission Society Church of God, the only church in the whole world testifying to the existence of Heavenly Mother, shares Heavenly Mother’s love to the community through various initiatives that promote the restoration and protection of the environment. In line with this, Miss Earth Philippines 2011 uphold this initiative by channelling the beauty pageant and entertainment industry as an effective tool to promote environmental awareness.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Mayor Jun Bernabe of Parañaque City, acknowledged the church’s efforts in delivering God’s love to this world through numerous good deeds, by awarding them with a Certificate of Appreciation.
