One and the Plural God, Father and Mother
May 24, 2022
Many people argue that there is only one God, our Father in heaven and insist that there can’t be God the Mother. If that is so, there shouldn’t be any verses in the Bible that testifies about the existence of both God the Father and Mother. The Bible doesn’t contradict itself, so it’s important to put the verses together carefully for us to get the whole and clear picture. Like how a jigsaw puzzle looks confusing at first, but when put together correctly, the image becomes clearer.
The Bible Testifies About One God
For so long, the idea that God is our only savior has been hammered into the minds of Christians because of some testimonies in the Bible.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus…
1 Timothy 6:15 …which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords…
The Bible Testifies About the Plural God
If God is only one, there shouldn’t be any verses that refer to God as plural. There shouldn’t be any record in the Bible that we have both God the Father and Mother. However, from the creation until the last days, from Genesis to Revelations, we can see the existence of the plural God.
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
God refers to himself as plural when He said “us” and “our.” Why? The words “in the image of God” also prove that Adam and Eve were copies of God, not of angels or human beings like some people insist when they explain who God was talking with. “In the image of God” proves that two Gods were talking during the creation, one was male, and the other was female.
In the original text of the Bible (Hebrew Text), the word used for God in these verses was Elohim(אֱלֹהִים) that means Gods. The singular form of God in the original text was El (אל) or Eloah (אלוה). However, Elohim (אֱלֹהִים) was used more than 2500 times in the Hebrew text.
In Revelations, we can see that two Gods work together for our salvation.
Revelation 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.
The free gift of the water of life means eternal life (Jn 4:14). Only God can give the water of life. If the Spirit and Bride gives us water of life, they must be Gods. The Spirit according to the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one God) is our God the Father. Never in the Bible was it recorded that prophets or any people of God could give the water of life or eternal life, so the Bride can’t be the people or church like most people believe. If God who gives us eternal life in the above verse is just one, who is the Bride? Should we just ignore Her? Surely not, because She is also a source of the water of life.
There are pieces in the Bible that people don’t realize. Why did God, the author of the Bible refer to Himself as “us?” Why was God called Elohim, which means plural? Who is the Bride giving the free gift of the water of life alongside Father? We should find out who is God with the female image, and the Bride who works with our Father for our salvation. Are the female image of God and the Bride not related to each other at all?
The Bride is Our Mother, the Female Image of God
The Scriptures explain that Heavenly Mother, the female image of God, is also the Bride in the book of Revelation. In all ages, people who failed to realize the Savior met destruction (Hos 4:6), so it’s crucial for us to fully understand our Savior and not have blind faith. Just like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that needs to be put together correctly to solve the hidden image, we can solve the mystery about our savior if we study His words carefully, putting all the mated verses together.
Revelation 19:7-8 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given to her to wear.”
Revelation 21:9-10 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” … and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.
Galatians 4:26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.
Romans 5:14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
Two but One
Despite all the verses that testify about God the Mother, people cling to the verses about God being one. Many people still insist that there is no God the Mother because the Bible says God is one. Let us think of the following cases.
Hansel and Gretel is a famous fairy tale about two siblings who lived in the woods. If someone says “Hansel and Gretel,”he could be talking about the two siblings named “Hansel” and “Gretel” as two different characters. However, it could also mean that he is talking about that one story itself. Thus, Hansel and Gretel can be two or one.
Bread and butter are commonly known as foods people can eat together or separately. However, “bread and butter” is also an expression that means someone’s basic source of income. So bread and butter could mean one thing, but also two different things.
Eggs are common food for many people. Everyone knows that eggs have yolk and white that look and taste different from each other. Sometimes, people take the yolk out of the white and cook them separately. The way the yolk and white work are so different from each other when separated. Someone can make meringue with the egg white but can’t with the egg yolk. Not because the yolk is taken out of the white, people would say that they are cooking two eggs. Everyone knows that it’s still one egg.
Like the above examples, many things in the world are considered one but also two and vice versa. In the Bible also, two different characters were considered one. All Christians know that Adam and Eve are two different creations of God. However, the Bible considers them as one.
Romans 5: 12-14 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned… Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
Here, who is the “one man” that brought sin and death to the world? Adam. It says “one”, but if we think about it carefully, who was the one who disobeyed first and led Adam to sin? It was Eve. Then why didn’t the Bible say, “one woman, Eve” or “two men, Adam and Eve?” It’s because Adam and Eve are also one.
Genesis 2:23-24 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Adam and Eve are images of our Father and Mother. Just as Adam and Eve are two but one, so our Father and Mother are two, but also one.
All Living Beings Have Father and Mother
Not only Adam and Eve, but everything that has life created by God proves the existence of both God the Father and Mother. We don’t see the spiritual world, but God gave us a lot of clues for us to understand Their nature. Animals on the ground, birds in the sky, fishes in the sea, plants and trees around, and humans all have mothers who give life to them. Are they just coincidences?
Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they were created and have their being.”
Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Everything was created by the will of God and His creations help us understand His invisible qualities and divine nature. That way, we can’t have any excuse for not knowing God and His will. If Father is our only God and source of eternal life, shouldn’t He have created men as the ones giving birth to children? Shouldn’t men be the only ones capable of giving birth to make God’s will clearer that life is given through Him only? Nevertheless, God allowed the work of giving birth only to women. Man can do almost everything except one thing – giving birth. Even Eve’s name tells us that God’s will is given through mothers as her name means “living” or “life” (Gen 3:20).
The Bible verses, the original text of the Scriptures, and God’s creation all testify about the existence of both God the Father and Mother. Why else should we keep closing our eyes and heart to Heavenly Mother? We should find not only Heavenly Father but also Heavenly Mother and receive the water of life from Them.
